Best Cab Driver Moment # 1 (first words out of his mouth when I asked him to tell me about Albuquerque) - "You should be very careful here, New Mexico is 15th in crime in the country."
Best Cab Driver Moment # 2 (same cab driver, trip back the airport 8 days later) - "Goldberg? Is that a Jewish name? I'm Jewish. Also, been in AA for 12 years."
Best Albuquerque Marriot Pyramid North Moment - witnessing a wedding smack in the middle of the giant open lobby.
Most Disappointing Meal: The Pancake House - they only offered 3 different kinds of pancakes, and yet, 15 different kinds of pie. Should be called The Pie House then, no?
Restaurant Recommended by the Most People - Applebee's.
Establishments Mentioned By No One (and I wouldn't have seen if I hadn't driven by them) - Whole Foods and Wild Oats
Most Awesome Thing to Hear on a Set - "Fire in the hole."
Most Amusing Comment (A Hertz Rental Car employee to me) - "No offense, but you don't look a day over 21 years old."
Best Quote of the trip (said by our female producer, with a straight face) - "It's been a while since I've had a lap dance."
Biggest Realization - When someone recommends Sante Fe to you, keep in mind, they are recommending it in comparison to Albuquerque.
Second Biggest Realization - Seeing a movie about a serial killer ("Zodiac") and then remembering the warning by the cab driver about crime - this might interfere with a good night's sleep.
Saddest Realization - That the craft service is not only the best food in Albuquerque, but it's better than all the food in a 15 block radius from your office in NYC.
MVP Employee - Lady at Albuquerque Airport - Flight to NY is the last flight out at night, the entire airport is closed otherwise, so the same person who checks you and your baggage in is the same person who takes your ticket to board the plane.
Proudest Moment - Driving around Albuquerque and not getting lost or hitting anyone with your car.
Boldest Move - Taking a close-up camera-phone picture of an actor with gigantor eyebrows to show to your colleagues to explain why the line "fuck you and your eyebrows" in the script is so amazing.
Worst Negotiation for Turquoise - "How much is that ring?" "75 dollars." "Okay, no thank you" (and slowly slinking away).
Most Surprising Trend - Almost every restaurant served water with an unsolicited slice of lemon (aka The Mike Goldberg Original).
Biggest Turnoff - When someone points out that the crew member you have a crush on looks like Rick Fox.
Most Surprising Moment - Realizing you are sad to leave Albuquerque and actually wish you were staying longer (though, to be honest, it's more about the work than the local culture. Sorry Albu!).
